UNICEF calls for the immediate cessation of hostilities in Gaza, and for all parties to unconditionally protect children from harm and afford them the special protection to which they are entitled, in accordance with their obligations under international humanitarian and human rights law.
No place is safe for children while this intense fighting continues, the agency said. All parties must uphold the rights of all children, including children captured in the course of operations. This includes children perceived to be associated with parties to the conflict.
According to UNICEF, children’s rights to life and protection from any violence are paramount. Abduction of children by a party to the conflict constitutes a grave violation. Any children in custody of parties to the conflict should be protected and immediately and unconditionally released.
The agency also said that delivery of aid is a matter of life or death for children in Gaza.
