“We're not doing enough. So, the problem is that we're going to cross 1.5°C, the Paris Agreement goal in the next decade, and we're going to likely go beyond that, hit 2.7°C or 3°C under current pledges and pledging scenarios.”

"So, the humanitarian community is there this year, in force. We have a Humanitarian Hub. We really hope to highlight that we need more finance in these vulnerable countries. We need more action, and we need to see humanitarians as critical players in the climate space.”

Humanitarian issues will be central to negotiations at the upcoming 28th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28).
Zinta Zommers, Climate science and Practice lead at the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), said, “At COP this year, it's likely to be an announcement, or the world hopes that there will be an announcement, about a new loss and damage fund which can impact our work as well. And that's why we're following this - hoping to influence outcomes in a positive way.”
