1. Various shots, exterior, damage around hospital
2. SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Haneen Abu Dayyeh, volunteer anaesthesia technician, Kamal Adwan Hospital, North Gaza:
“Despite the fact that the hospital’s medical staff is no longer here as some of them were taken away, others were displaced, exiled, or arrested. We, who were already displaced and residing here at the hospital, got together with the help of some individuals who are related to the medical field to provide medical assistance to the displaced and injured people as much as we could and as much as possible.”
3. Various shots, health staff performing surgery
4. SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Dr Mazen Muhammad Rajab, Consultant, Anaesthesia and Intensive Care, Kamal Adwan Hospital, North Gaza:
“Despite the scarcity of resources; lack of medicine and medical equipment, we still managed to have these operating rooms functional again after they stopped working for two weeks, that was with the help of three of my fellow anesthesia technicians. We are trying as much as possible to use every available resource at the hospital to have the operating rooms as functional as possible. We perform some operations, including caesarean sections and urgent surgeries for patients.”
5. Various shots, health workers examining baby
6. SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Dr. Muhammad Hamoud, paediatric specialist, Kamal Adwan Hospital, North Gaza:
“As we said, we have a diversity in diagnosing cases. These cases are all in need of two things: oxygen and electricity. For example, this is a “DKA” case (Diabetic ketoacidosis), the syringe pump needs to always have electricity and if it loses power at any point, that will reset us back to zero. The second case is “Natal Jaundice” Of course, this requires intensive phototherapy, and it also requires full availability of electricity. The third case is a respirator distress; it needs oxygen around the clock; otherwise, we will be forced to use oxygen cylinders as an alternative solution. and it’s not effective nor safe as sometimes the oxygen cylinder is empty and it causes problems to children. Therefore, oxygen and electricity are our main dilemma as any lack or cut of the two will result in the deterioration of cases, leading to death, as it happened with many of our cases. This is another case of a mechanical ventilator which also requires oxygen and electricity, and here we have the “Syndromic” case, it’s also on oxygen and feeding tubes, this a premature case that needs oxygen around the clock, and the reason the babies are clothed is that the incubator is not heated enough due to the lack of electricity and we were forced to the cloth the babies. And our third and last case is also on oxygen. Since the hospital is basically covering Gaza city and northern Gaza, we are working with what resources we have available and provide the minimum required medical service, and that’s due to the fact that most of the medical staff have moved south and, of course, the shortage of equipment and medicines.
7. Various shots, doctors and young patients
8. SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Mother of young patient, Kamal Adwan Hospital, North Gaza:
“I am the mother of this twelve-day-old baby. We are now displaced in a school, and the situation there is not healthy; it's filled with pollution, and it’s not good for either of us.”
9. Various shots, doctors, patients, and family
