“We have a major shortage of medical staff. We have less than ten percent of the staff in the hospital that were working throughout the war. The majority of injured people coming to the hospital are those displaced in schools and residential areas. Of course, the medical equipment in the hospital is almost non-existent. The simplest things in the hospital, such as painkillers and anaesthesia tools are not available. We are trying our best to deal with patients that arrive and we are trying to keep them alive. We are not trying to treat them as we were doing before, we are just trying to keep them alive.”

“Of course, as you can see, all the teams in our health sector in the hospital left the hospital. I mean, even the cleaning workers, as you can see, they are not here with us. Some of us doctors try and clean the place after we have treated patients and the nursing department also do this job too. The situation is a disaster in the hospital, even for the simplest things, such as painkillers. Our patients or the cases we receive are suffering severe burns and pain and they are in desperate need of painkillers. We are lacking everything and the these are the only painkillers left we have. If you want to count them, they are only for maybe five or four patients.”

“As you can see cases are arriving from Al-Dahra area, as they were moving to Al-Mawasi area. The patients came to the hospital to find a few doctors only as other fled with their families to Al-Mawasi. We are in desperate need of medical equipment, because as you can see Al-Naser hospital is lacking all the medical tools, and equipment.”

Storyline

As fighting intensifies around Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis, the Gaza Strip, hundreds of patients and health workers have fled. Currently 350 patients and 5000 displaced people remain at the hospital.

The hospital is running out of fuel, food and supplies. The intense fighting in the vicinity continues. Access to resupply the hospital remains challenging.

WHO appealed for a an immediate ceasefire, so that the organization can replenish urgently needed lifesaving supplies.
