We are from Okhrimivka. We live together with my daughter. She has a disability. The village has been shelled. Everything has been destroyed. Only 35 houses are left. During bombardments we were sheltering in the basement.

“People, as a rule, come here under a lot of stress. There are people who have been displaced more than once. For example, we met people who had been displaced from near Bakhmut and found a new home in the Vovchansk or Lyptsi communities, and now they have to flee again, so it’s their second displacement.”
Several waves of attacks in the Kharkiv Region over the past few days led to more civilian deaths and injuries, including among children. With the deteriorating security situation, humanitarian needs in the region are growing.
People are fleeing the areas of active hostilities en masse. Evacuations are underway through buses coordinated by humanitarian organizations, volunteers, and local authorities. Between 10 and 15 May, around 2,400 people have been evacuated and brought to the transit centre and received assistance.
Another more than 1,700 people who have left on their own but came and registered at the center for assistance.
Humanitarian organizations rapidly mobilized resources to provide emergency assistance to people fleeing for safety from the border and front-line communities. Aid organizations – complementing the efforts of national rescue and municipal services – distributed food, water and hygiene supplies, as well as essential household items; arranged accommodation; and provided health-related, psychological, and legal services through the coordinated response by the aid organizations and volunteer groups. They have been operating in the Kharkiv City transit centre which serves as a hub for receiving people displaced from across the region and coordinating humanitarian aid distribution since the escalation of the security situation on 10 May.
