“The courts meet this morning to hear the single round of oral arguments of the State of Israel, on the request submitted by the Republic of South Africa on May 10th, 2024, for the indication of additional provisional measures and the modification of previous provisional measures in the case concerning application of the convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide in the Gaza Strip, South Africa versus Israe.I now give the floor to the Co-Agent of Israel, Mr Gilad Noam.”

“Mr. President. Members of the Court. It is an honor to appear before you once again on behalf of the State of Israel. This case, even by its very name, the application of the convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide in the Gaza Strip suggests an inversion of reality.”

The State of Israel requested the International Court of Justice (ICJ) to reject the request for the modification and indication of provisional measures submitted by the Republic of South Africa.
The UN’s top Court in the Hague heard the oral argument from Israel today (17 May).
Gilad Noam, Co-Agent of Israel said, “Mr. President. Members of the Court. It is an honor to appear before you once again on behalf of the State of Israel. This case, even by its very name, the application of the convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide in the Gaza Strip suggests an inversion of reality.”

The hearing came after the request for the indication/modification of provisional measures submitted by South Africa last week. The Court heard South Africa’s oral argument on Thursday (16 May).
