4. SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Dr Hani Barbaq, Head of Dialysis, Nasser Medical Complex:
“This unit now contains twenty-three dialysis machines. WHO played a major role in bringing fifteen devices, and this helped us greatly in re-opening the unit. Opening this unit again became an urgent necessity, especially after Abu Youssef Al-Najjar Hospital went out of service as a result of the invasion of Rafah. The place as you can see is very crowded and it’s providing service to about two hundred fifty patients suffering from chronic kidney failure.”

The World Health Organization (WHO) coordinated support from several international partners to get Nasser Medical Complex operational again. WHO provided the medical supplies and fuel, along with coordination support, while partners have worked with hospital staff to relaunch various sections of the hospital, including the dialysis department, where WHO has provided 15 haemodialysis machines and medical supplies to support more than 250 patients for the next 6 months.
