Addressing the Security Council today (17 Jul) on behalf of the Secretary-General, UN Chef de Cabinet Courtenay Rattray said, “The violence must end, and the perpetrators of the violence must be swiftly brought to justice. Israel must ensure the safety and security of the Palestinian population.”

Gilad Erdan, Israeli Ambassador and Permanent Representative, highlighted the continued suffering of the hostages, adding that the war will not end until the hostages are released and that Israel “will not leave a single hostage behind”.
After the Council, Muhannad Hadi, the Humanitarian Resident Coordinator for the Occupied Palestinian Territory (oPt) addressed the press.
