“The Security Council recognizes, just last week, the crucial role UNIFIL plays in pursuing de-escalation and stability across the Blue Line through its liaison activities, conducting patrols, and providing humanitarian access. Our cooperation with the Lebanese Armed Forces remains essential in implementing resolution 1701. UNIFIL's efforts are central in supporting a return to a cessation of hostilities in accordance to resolution 1701. We at the UN headquarters in New York will continue to do all we can to support you."

United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations Jean-Pierre Lacroix today (2 Aug) visited UNIFIL's western and eastern sector headquarters and emphasized the urgent need to restore stability to ensure the safety of peacekeepers and civilians near the Blue Line.
