2. UPSOUND (English) Alan Ebun George, Minister Counsellor at the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Sierra Leone to the United Nations:
“I shall now put the draft resolution to the vote. Now, will those in favor of draft resolution contained in document S/2024/634, please raise their hand. The result of the voting is as follows. The draft resolution received 15 votes in favor. The draft resolution has been adopted unanimously as resolution 2749 of 2024.”
3. SOUNDBITE (English) Robert A. Wood, Alternate Representative of the United States of America for Special Political Affairs in the United Nations:
“Lebanon should not be a haven for terrorist organizations or a launch pad for attacks against Israel. There is no dispute that Iran in clear violation of the arms embargo in resolution 1701 provides Hezbollah with the majority of the rockets, missiles and drones that are fired at Israel. And let's be clear, Israel has a right to defend itself against Hezbollah's attacks. No member of this council facing a brutal terrorist organization on its border would tolerate daily attacks and displacement of tens of thousands of its own people. United States supports Israel's right to defend itself, and we will keep working for regional stability.”

5. SOUNDBITE (English) Dmitry Polyanskiy, Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Russian Federation:
“We express our full support to UNIFIL It plays a key stabilizing role at a time when we're Seeing a dangerous spike in tensions along the Lebanon Israel border area. Every day, we are receiving information about intensive exchange of mutual fire along the Blue Line and also violations by Israel of the airspace of Lebanon, including overflights of military aviation over Beirut in order to scare civilians. There's also a source of concern when we talk about the increasing practice of political assassinations. Recently, these kinds of activities pose a direct threat to the security of the UN peacekeepers located in the South of Lebanon. As it is reflected in the text of the resolution, presence of peacekeepers reduces the risk of starting a full-scale armed confrontation.”

7. SOUNDBITE (English) Hadi Hachem, Charge d'Affaires, a.i., Lebanon:
“Today's unanimous vote is proof of the international community's interest in Lebanon. It is a clear message from your honorable Council in favor of stability and a ceasefire. It is a gesture of hope for all Lebanese who reject more violence and destruction, the Lebanese who want to give peace a chance, they are counting on the Security Council and on Lebanon's many friends to help achieve a cessation of hostilities and implement resolution 1701, in All its provisions and in its entirety.”

9. SOUNDBITE (English) Danny Danon, Ambassador, Permanent Representative to the United nations, Israel:
“Just this week, when Hezbollah launched over 300 rockets, missiles and explosive dorms against Israel, Hezbollah Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah admitted openly that most of these rockets were launched from South Lebanon from within uniforms area of operation. Mr. President, it's important to stress that 90 percent of the rockets and missiles filed at Israel this week by Hezbollah, were launched from civilian areas in South Lebanon. Allow me to share with you two pictures. The first one is from the village of Blida in southern Lebanon. And what you can see in the picture, the red dots are the places where the rockets were launched into Israel. It was 160 meters from a gas station. You can see the gas station here in blue, it was 220 meters from a school. That's what they are doing. They are placing the rockets in civilian communities. Or another picture that I want to share with you, it shows a UNIFIL facility in southern Lebanon, near the village of Hanniyeh. And what you can see in the picture, the red dots are the rocket launchers - we have the ability to see once it's being launched into Israel. And this one is 150 meters from the UNIFIL base. And I ask, will it be reported by UNIFIL that the launches were placed? With those who are interested, I will share with you dozens of pictures like that one we have, that show that they are placing the rockets next to UNIFIL basis. Mr. President, despite what I just described above, the text of the uniform mandate renewal that the Council just adopted, does not address the core problems surrounding the implementation of Resolution 1701”

12. SOUNDBITE (English) Danny Danon, Ambassador, Permanent Representative to the United nations, Israel:
“I have a message for the Lebanese people. You and your government have a choice to make, confront Hezbollah today, or watch as your country is dragged into chaos and destruction. The time for action is now. Do not let Hezbollah and Iran dictate your future. If you fail to act, the devastation that follows will be on your hands. Israel does not seek war, but as we demonstrated this week, we will not hesitate to defend our people. We will not tolerate Hezbollah firing brackets at our citizens. The time for the international community to act is now before this conflict spirals further out of control. We call on this council to finally enforce resolution 1701 in full, and to recognize Hezbollah as a terrorist organization.”

The United Nations Security Council unanimously adopted Resolution 2749 renewing the mandate of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) for one more year.

U.S. Alternate Representative for Special Political Affairs Robert A. Wood emphasized the need for Lebanon to prevent Hezbollah from using its territory as a launchpad for attacks against Israel. Israeli Ambassador Danny Danon criticized Hezbollah for launching attacks from civilian areas in southern Lebanon, presenting evidence of rockets fired near schools and UNIFIL bases. Danon urged Lebanon to confront Hezbollah, warning that inaction could lead to further chaos and destruction.
