“The commitment outlined in the Pact for the Future and the Declaration on our future generations compel us to ensure that our action today do not compromise the rights and wellbeing of those who will inherit this planet. We must confront the cause and impact of climate change head on, scaling our efforts to protect the environment and accelerate our transition to a sustainable future.

“As nations disproportionately impact by climate change SIDS urge international community to close adaptation finance gap that severely affects the developing countries, particularly small island developing states.”

“We must integrate climate change into peace operation mandates and ensure comprehensive risk assessment that address the needs of our vulnerable groups, including women, children, and indigent people.”

Prime Minister of the Republic of Vanuatu, Charlot Salwai Tabimasmas, said, “We must confront the cause and impact of climate change head on, scaling our efforts to protect the environment and accelerate our transition to a sustainable future.”
At the Summit of the Future Plenary today (23 Sep) in New York, Prime Minister Tabimasmas spoke on behalf of the Pacific Small Island Developing States.
He said, “The commitment outlined in the Pact for the Future and the Declaration on our future generations compel us to ensure that our action today do not compromise the rights and wellbeing of those who will inherit this planet.”
Prime Minister Tabimasmas reiterated, “As nations disproportionately impact by climate change SIDs urge international community to close adaptation finance gap that severely affects the developing countries, particularly small island developing states.”

World leaders adopted a Pact for the Future on Sunday (22 Sep) that includes a Global Digital Compact and a Declaration on Future Generations. The Pact covers a broad range of themes including peace and security, sustainable development, climate change, digital cooperation, human rights, gender, youth and future generations, and the transformation of global governance.
