Honduran President Xiomara Castro today (25 Sep) told the General Assembly’s General Debate that “colonial practices, interference, economic, mediatic and political domination, continue to be imposed in Honduras.

Castro said, “supranational powers, and some multinational companies, are the product of corrupt public-private elites who have no other purpose than to increase their capital.”

She said, “globalization has failed in its mission of bringing prosperity to the people. Their outcomes show the concentration of wealth in the richest countries and in the elites, while the working class is relegated and forced to migrate to survive.”

Xiomara Castro is Honduras’ first female president, and previously served as first lady during the presidency of her husband Manuel Zelaya.
