3. SOUNDBITE (Portuguese) Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, President, Brazil:
“Today's geopolitics is different from the geopolitics of 1945. The importance of countries is also different, for more or for less. So, what we are defending is that there be a new geopolitics or new geopolitical configuration so that we can have all the continents represented in the UN, including the Security Council, ending the right of veto and increasing the command power of the United Nations. If that happens, I think we could avoid many conflicts that we have today.”

5. SOUNDBITE (Portuguese) Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, President, Brazil:
“What is happening in Israel, in the Gaza Strip, and now in Lebanon is unprecedented. And as much as the UN has argued, no matter how much it has taken a decision, there is no compliance with any UN decision. The same thing is the war between Ukraine and Russia. It's a war that shouldn't even have started, but since it did start, my idea is that there is no possibility of a military solution to that war. There needs to be a diplomatic solution.”

7. SOUNDBITE (Portuguese) Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, President, Brazil:
“The UN when it was created, it had a lot of strength to create the State of Israel and now it has no strength to create the Palestinian State. It is important to create it so that the two live in peace in a harmonious way, as do another hundred countries in the world.”

9. SOUNDBITE (Portuguese) Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, President, Brazil:
“Brazil intends to hold a very, very special G20, not only because it will be held in Rio de Janeiro and therefore already a little special, but because we will have on the 16th, I think, a forum, a social G20 where people from the social movement from various countries around the world are being invited. And then I think there will be a very important participation between regular members and guests, because in addition to discussing inequality, in addition to re-discussing UN convergence, in addition to discussing the conditions of the climate transition, we have to discuss other topics that are on the agenda and that it was not possible to put on the agenda when we made the agenda.”

11. SOUNDBITE (Portuguese) Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, President, Brazil:
“The rise of the extreme right, that extremism that we're seeing with the very large support in the fake news industry, which is being monetized. Some people get rich with a big amount of lies, a big amount of levity. I called the democrats to discuss, where did democracy go wrong? Because at some point democracy committed a failure that allowed extremists and extreme right-wing people to question democracy itself, question the system, question a series of things that 50 years ago were the fault of the left.”

13. SOUNDBITE (Portuguese) Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, President, Brazil:
“It is important to remember that Prime Minister Netanyahu was tried by the international court that tried Putin and he is convicted in the same way as Putin. It is important to remember that several discussions have already taken place here at the UN Security Council. Several, several attempts at peace and ceasefire have been approved and that he does not comply with, he simply does comply.”

15. SOUNDBITE (Portuguese) Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, President, Brazil:
“He has to defend sovereignty, it's his obligation. He has to be against the occupation of the entire territory, it's his obligation. What he's been unable to do is to find peace. What we are proposing is not to do it for them. What we are calling attention is to make them take into account that only peace will guarantee that what they survive as a sovereign country and Russia will survive. That's what I'm saying. They don't have to accept the proposal from China and Brazil because there is no proposal. I have a thesis that it's important to start talking.”
