"This is the Maracas River, where our people, my ancestors, fished for their food every day. They caused environmental damage, cutting down all the trees, and as a result, the river began to dry up. Today, the Maracas River does not have the water flow it had more than 20 years ago.”

And when I was little, I accompanied her in all the processes of struggle, organization, and leadership. I continued the path of leadership, especially because I saw it as a necessity. It was my duty. I told myself: 'I am that woman who was born to defend the territory.”

“There has been coordination, joint work, and the most important thing for me, as a Yukpa woman, has been to raise awareness about the Yukpa people and our territory. Climate change has led us to a bigger problem, which is the loss of crops and lack of food. Today we don't have enough food in our communities. We continue to resist, but we are also going to help the whole world continue resisting and protecting the environment, the territory, and the air. And to say: 'Here we are to contribute to humanity, to the entire world.”
