“Abed was hit by shrapnel in his right leg that led to its amputation. Abdul Moneim is currently in a difficult health condition with third-degree burns on his body, in his back and in his legs, every forty-eight hours he undergoes to surgeries in order to change on the wounds and the burns in his body. Also, his amputated leg has high percentage of third-degree burns. And by God’s he will be treated.”

“We were in Nasser Hospital, we were transferred by the World Health Organization to the European Hospital, and God willing, we will travel to the United Arab Emirates on Wednesday 4 am in the morning, by god’s will.”

“Today is the 5th of November 2024, and we are at the European Gaza Hospital. Behind me, WHO has prepared a hospital ward to secure proper care for patients and caregivers before their medical evacuation from Gaza Strip outside to United Arab Emirates and Romania. The World Health Organization is supporting medical evacuation of people in need so that they continue their care outside of the Gaza Strip.”

“My son is ten years old and suffers from kidney failure and atrophy in both kidneys, grade five. The World Health Organization contacted us about a week ago regarding my son, and they evacuated us from northern Gaza Strip and transferred us to Al-Nasser Medical Complex for a week. We are currently in the European hospital getting ready for the treatment trip. We are heading to Kerem Shalom crossing and then departure to the Emirates.”

“Today, we will be medevacing 228 people, of which 88 critical patients, 82 of them will go to the UAE with their companions and their loved ones and six critical patients will go to Romania. The patients are a mix of trauma patients, but also chronic diseases. We also medevac a lot of cancer patients. First of all, a big thanks to the UAE and Romania, but also a big thanks to our partners the Palestinian Red Crescent Society and CADUS.”
06 NOVEMBER 2024, EUROPEAN GAZA HOSPITAL, RAFAH

“WHO estimates that between 12 and 14,000 critical patients should be medevaced outside Gaza to get the right treatment and care they deserve. Before the Rafah crossing was closed on 6th of May, roughly 4700 patients WHO facilitated with partners to cross into Egypt mainly and from Egypt to some other countries.”

06 NOVEMBER 2024, KEREM SHALOM CROSSING, GAZA

“We are here at Kerem Shalom. The first patients are coming out of Gaza this morning, they're going to be transported to Romania. The European Union is supporting the mechanism. There are more than 12,000 of the patients that need medical attention and the EU will be continuing to support.”

31. SOUNDBITE (English) Shannon Barkley, Health System Team Lead, WHO occupied Palestinian territory:
“The process of getting to this point is, unfortunately, too long and too restrictive to allow all the patients who need medical evacuation to access that right now. So, patients begin with a referral from their treating physician, and those referrals are reviewed by a medical evacuation committee at the Ministry of Health. Those… the patients that are validated in need of medical evacuation, are then submitted for approvals by Israeli authorities for security screening, and then ultimately are approved by receiving member states of the World Health Organization.”

The World Health Organization (WHO) and partners today (06 Nov) evacuated 229 patients and companions from Gaza to Romania and United Arab Emirates (UAE) in collaboration with the Government of UAE and Romania and the European Union.
Patients included those with autoimmune diseases, blood diseases, cancer, kidneys conditions, and trauma injuries.
84 patients will be heading to United Arab Emirates and 6 to Romania for treatment.
