“For the past few months, we’ve been coming here since five in the morning to get a turn to receive flour, but nothing is available. Every day we come and leave empty-handed. Flour is the essential source of livelihood. If this basic need is not available, the people will surely die. This is a famine war. What happened in the north has happened here with us exactly. There are no vegetables, no milk, and there’s nothing left in the south now. We are asking for the least - to have flour. Flour is the basic source of food. Today, I have no flour, and I haven’t had any for the past two weeks. So, we borrowed a little flour and rice from our neighbors, but it’s not enough. And now, since yesterday, we haven’t eaten anything, and the neighbors we borrowed from also ran out of flour. Now, we’re all in the same situation, and we are asking for the presence of flour so we can live.

In front of a United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) warehouse, hundreds of Palestinians lined up to obtain flour, as the population in southern Gaza Strip areas are experiencing food shortages.
As winter approaches, the lack of food and other vital humanitarian supplies entering the strip will likely lead to catastrophic consequences, the World Food Programme (WFP) warned.
A woman waiting to receive flour from UNRWA’s warehouses in Deir al-Balah, central Gaza Strip, said, “Flour is the basic source of livelihood. If this basic need is not available, the people will surely die. This is a famine war. What happened in the north has happened here with us exactly.”
She was displaced from northern Gaza a year ago, she said, “There are no vegetables, no milk, and there’s nothing left in the south now. We are asking for the least, to have flour. Flour is the basic source of food. Today, I have no flour, and I haven’t had any for the past two weeks.”
One of the Palestinians who also arrived at UNRWA’s warehouses to obtain flour said, “The flour sack now represents me as a refugee and a state because we are all hungry. We all feel hunger. Flour secures our entire life for living. Flour is everything.”
In an alert, the World Food Programme (WFP) described markets “in decay” across the enclave. “Fresh foods, eggs, and meat barely exist and the prices of any food available have reached record highs,” it says.
