2. SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Um Alaa Abo Oudah:

4. SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Omar Najem:
“I came to receive the flour. I have not received flour for more than ten months. The situation is very difficult and there is no assistance, no vouchers, no salaries. Things are very difficult, the situation is very, very difficult. People are fighting for survival. I borrowed some flour from people because I needed it. Now I am going to return it to them, God willing. Flour satisfies children's hunger even if they eat it without anything else. Even if they eat only bread. We, adults can live without food. This is not a problem, but the most important thing for us is children. We are struggling in Gaza to get food for the children and not for us. We can be patient with hunger, but children cannot be patient.”

6. SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Mohamad Hussain Mahmoud Hassan:
“We came to get the flour or buy it or take it from anyone but we couldn't find it. We couldn't find any. We search here and there for the children. There is not even a small amount of flour in the house, nor are there bakeries or anything. It is all cut off. Goods are very expensive if found. Things have reached the point of famine. God forbid, we may have famine within days. We try to buy rice as a substitute for bread.”

8. SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Mohamad Hamdan:
“I haven't seen flour for five months, and we can't rely on the bakeries. I have four children. The first thing they want when they wake up is bread. My children are starving. No one can get bread from bakeries. You need to fight to get a loaf of bread or a bundle of bread. In the market, it costs 40 or 50 shekels. I'm not working so I cannot pay 40 shekels a day. I will now have to pay 50 shekels in order to get home. I came from Deir El-Balah to Nusseirat to get the flour.”

10. SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Eyahb Baker Ahmed:
“There is no flour. We used to go to the bakery and buy a bundle of bread for 15 shekels and today it cost 30 or 35 shekels with a struggle to get it. If we receive our aid from flour, that would be a great achievement. We pray that we will be able to receive our allocations but the queue is still too long.”
