Storyline

Amid cold and rainy weather, internally displaced persons (IDPs) across Gaza face worsening conditions. Approximately 1.9 million people (9 in 10) are displaced, many living in makeshift tents that cannot withstand stormy winds.

These shelters, made from cloth, tarpaulin, or plastic sheeting, fail to provide adequate protection, exposing families to harsh winter elements. The shelter cluster reports that most of these structures are substandard, leaving thousands of displaced families vulnerable.

In the Al-Mawasi area by the sea, where internally displaced persons (IDPs) have set up their makeshift tents. UNICEF works to provide essential items like clothing and hygiene products; UNICEF not only addresses immediate needs but also brings some form of dignity to those affected by the escalation of hostilities.

To help, UNICEF is preparing to distribute winter clothes for over 150,000 babies and children. Additionally, UNICEF has handed over three dewatering pumps to mitigate flooding and wastewater overflow in Gaza City, benefiting 250,000 people. Maintenance of sewage and stormwater networks in Deir El Balah, Nuseirat, and Khan Younis has also been carried out, supporting 400,000 people.
