“The discussion provided an opportunity to take stock of the joint efforts, the progress made in terms of stabilization, the strengthening of state presence, the consolidation of relations between the Central African Republic and its neighbors, as well as the preparations for the 2025 electoral cycle, starting with local elections followed by general elections. It is clear that this cycle will be fundamental in creating a new positive step towards the stabilization and democratic consolidation in the Central African Republic.”
[FRENCH TRANSCRIPTION: «La discussion a permis de faire le point sur les efforts communs, sur les progrès en termes de stabilisation, en termes de renforcement de la présence de l'État, en termes de consolidation des relations entre la République centrafricaine et ses voisins et également en ce qui concerne les préparatifs du cycle électoral pour l'année 2025, élection locale puis élection générale, dont il est clair que d'abord ce cycle sera fondamental pour constituer une nouvelle étape positive dans la direction de la stabilisation de l'enracinement démocratique en République centrafricaine».]

“We have highlighted the issues that are still causing us problems, particularly the mobilization of sufficient resources to complete the preparation cycle for the local elections. We also emphasized the importance of the MINUSCA's support to the Central African government, especially to the ANE, in ensuring the success of this process. We raised the issue of securing these elections, for which a specific mandate has been given to MINUSCA to assist our country in successfully carrying out the process in a peaceful and stable environment. Additionally, we discussed the political environment, where MINUSCA plays an important role in advocacy and good offices, ensuring that different national actors can reach an agreement, so that our elections are inclusive and their results are accepted by all parties involved.”
[FRENCH TRANSCRIPTION: «Nous avons relevé les points qui nous posent encore des problèmes, notamment la mobilisation des ressources suffisantes pour pouvoir boucler le cycle de la préparation des élections locales, mais également nous avons souligné l'importance du dispositif de la MINUSCA en appui au gouvernement centrafricain, notamment à l'ANE, pour la réussite de ce processus. Nous avons également soulevé la question de la sécurisation de ces élections, dont un mandat particulier a été donné à la MINUSCA d'accompagner notre pays pour pouvoir réussir le processus dans un contexte, dans un environnement serein, apaisé. Et également, nous avons évoqué le sujet lié à l'environnement politique, où la MINUSCA joue un rôle important dans le plaidoyer et dans les bons offices pour que les différents acteurs nationaux puissent s'entendre et afin que nos élections soient des élections inclusives et dont les résultats sont acceptés par les uns et les autres».]

UN Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations meets with Faustin Archange Touadera, President of the Central African Republic (CAR) today (17 Dec), during his visit to the country.
The progress made in the implementation of the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA)'s mandate was discussed in detail.
Lacroix, said, “The discussion provided an opportunity to take stock of the joint efforts, the progress made in terms of stabilization, the strengthening of state presence, the consolidation of relations between the Central African Republic and its neighbors, as well as the preparations for the 2025 electoral cycle, starting with local elections followed by general elections. It is clear that this cycle will be fundamental in creating a new positive step towards the stabilization and democratic consolidation in the Central African Republic.”
MINUSCA reaffirmed its determination to continue and strengthen its efforts alongside the Central African Republic and its people.
