“My son has had a congenital heart problem since birth, he has a ventricular septal defect (VSD) with a slight deviation preventing it from healing. He was also suffering from a high pulmonary pressure, and mitral regurgitation (note: a heart valve condition in which the flaps of the mitral valve do not close properly, causing a backward flow of blood back to the heart). He needed to be put on certain period treatment, and now he needs a VSD surgery that we will be hopefully doing in the United Arab Emirates.”

“The child’s mother died, along with a group of people who were in the house, the child was injured, he suffered an amputation of his left leg, and multiple fractures starting at the top part of his right leg to his knee. He is also missing five-centimetre of bone.”

“I am his grandmother, and we are currently ready to head up to the crossing point tomorrow (Tuesday), and from there to the United Arab Emirates by God’s will. Hopefully they will be able to treat him by installing a part for his leg, and to treat his right leg from fractures.”

“My daughter is suffering from Tetralogy of Fallot, which is multiple heart problems. She has two holes in her heart and an enlarged valve. The girl suffers a lot and is always sick because of this. She also suffers from malnutrition. This has affected her growth; My daughter is one year and two months old, but she looks seven months younger than her age. We have contacted the World Health Organization and made a referral for her, and by God’s will we will be traveling to the United Arab Emirates via Kerem Abu Salem crossing border.”

“My son has a heart condition, and we found out about his illness when he was a two-month-old baby. Currently his condition is getting worse in the war, his heart condition has gotten worse; he became unable to leave the hospital. The bombing, and the debris from the missiles have made his chest even more tired. His heart condition is getting worse, affecting his ability to walk properly, and causing high blood pressure.”

“Today we came here to the European Hospital, in order for us to travel tomorrow (to UAE) to have his surgery done, and by God’s will we will return safely. We thank the World Health Organization for helping us travel for treatment, and for preventing anything bad from happening to him.”

“These are the last moments in the Gaza Strip and I am very happy because now we will head to the Kerem Abu Salem crossing. And of course, I am very happy and pleased because I want to travel.”

“The time is 05:30 and all the patients and companions are on the buses and ambulances behind me. We are about to form a convoy heading to Kerem Shalom. These patients are minors and oncology patient and trauma patients, patients with chronic diseases.”

Today (Dec 31) WHO in collaboration with the United Arab Emirates, evacuated 55 patients and 72 caregivers from Gaza to UAE for specialized medical treatment. Patients included those suffering from autoimmune and blood diseases, cancer, cardiovascular diseases, eye and renal issues, trauma injuries, neurological disorder, and skin diseases. More than 12,000 patients still need medical evacuation outside Gaza.
