"Before we were displaced to the Al-Nuseirat area, Central Gaza Strip, at sunset, we received the news that my daughter, her children, and her husband had been targeted. We tried to confirm the news by calling her husband, but he did not answer. At that moment, we confirmed the news, which stated that my daughter, her husband, and her children were all killed. When we inquired about how they were killed, we were told that after they were displaced to the Baptist Hospital and while setting up tents in the hospital yard, they were targeted. First, the women were hit, and then the men with another missile. I went to see them at the hospital, but I couldn’t recognize them or see them because they were just pieces. Later, one of my sons told me that Yazan, my daughter’s son, was still alive and with a woman. He was the only survivor from his entire family."

In the Gaza Strip, children have endured devastating hardships since October 2023.
In the Al-Nuseirat area in central Gaza, Yazan, a child who lost his entire family in an airstrike, is one of many children suffering from this conflict.
Ramziyah Totah, Yazan’s grandmother, said, “Before we were displaced to Al-Nuseirat, we received news that my daughter and her family were targeted in an airstrike. They were all killed, and Yazan was the only survivor of the family.”
The grandmother continued, “I took Yazan after he was treated in the hospital, where he stayed for a month. When the Israeli army raided the hospital, we were evacuated. Now, I work hard to ease his suffering and try to make Yazan forget the grief of losing his family.”
More than 17,000 children in Gaza have become orphans due to the recent war, most of them unaccompanied by their families, over 14,000 Palestinian children have killed and many others are suffering severe injuries.
Osama Tawtah, Yazan’s uncle, said, “the suffering continues. Even after he was moved to Al-Nuseirat, Yazan is still suffering from the injuries he sustained during the airstrike. My mother still aches from losing her family.”
