2. SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Abdel Naser Al Ajrami, bakery worker:
“Today, all [subsidized] bakeries stopped working, because Israel closed the crossings points. The program's stocks were completely out. It didn't have a single bag of flour, not a bag of sugar, or anything. It was all gone. We were informed that the program would be temporarily suspended until the crossings are opened.”
3. Med shot, inside a WFP-supported bakery showing empty shelves and shuttered entrance
4. SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Abdel Naser Al Ajrami, bakery worker:
“The situation is extremely dangerous, because people have no alternatives. They can’t bake because they don’t have electricity, energy, gas or fuel to bake. The situation is extremely tough. You may ask any citizen, and you will find out that they want to cry because of the tough situation they are living in:“I will die of hunger alongside my children.” They have no alternative for bakeries.”

YARMOUK DISPLACED PERSONS CAMP, NORTH GAZA
10. Various shots, the camp, showing the location where the family is staying
11. SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Jalila Abu Laila, displaced person:
“The situation is very difficult, poor kids are looking all day for food to eat, and they can’t find any. No bread, basically nothing is available; they might only get some rice from the good people who give some out, but in general, we are unable to provide anything for the children or even ourselves. The situation is very tough.”
12. Med shot, Jalila Abu Laila in a wheelchair
13. SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Khaled Abu Laila, displaced person:
“I am father who, since the morning, couldn’t even provide a single meal for my children. Who should I go to? What is happening to us is unfair and unacceptable. What did the bakery do wrong to end up closing? What’s the point of closing the border and not allowing entry for children’s needs? This is a complete injustice.”
14. UPSOUND (Arabic) Khaled Abu Laila, displaced person:
“This is what I managed to get, I bought this for four shekels (US $1), this needs to feed more than 15 people. ///This is how we live, and this is what we can provide.”
15. Close up, Khaled putting a small amount of peppers in half a pita bread
16. Med shot, son eating the pita bread
17. SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Khaled Abu Laila, displaced person:
“Everyone lost weight, everyone is suffering, everyone is thirsty, and everyone is hungry. A human being can’t live without food and water.”
18. Close up shot, a small amount of pita breads
19. SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Thuraya Soboh, displaced person:
“Our condition is extremely difficult; we spend most of the day without any bread to feed our children.”
20. Med shot, the children of the family
21. SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Thuraya Soboh, displaced person:
“I am afraid for my baby because of the lack of food. We also don’t have any money to buy food from the market, actually there’s no food in the market either, and the borders are closed.”
22. Wide shot, the family, with tents and clothes drying in the foreground
23. SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Saber Soboh, displaced person:
“What is this child’s fault? His calcium levels are zero due to lack of food. There’s no fish there’s no meat, there’s nothing at all, we can’t even get him milk. Calcium affects his teeth growth.”
24. Med shot, two young girls sharing a pita bread
25. SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Saber Soboh, displaced person:
“We even have a 9-month-old boy who still hasn’t had a single tooth, and the reason for this is malnutrition, because his mother is not healthy enough, and when she breastfeeds him, the baby is not benefiting at all. His mother eats one meal a day; she fries some rice or some pasta, does this contain vitamins? Not at all.”
26. Various shots, pasta and rice being cooked on a makeshift fire
PATIENT'S FRIENDS HOSPITAL, GAZA CITY
27. SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Dr Mahmoud Al Dalu:
“The situation we've reached now has deteriorated from the intensification of the blockade to the point where it has now reached the lack of basic commodities such as flour. This has a significant and negative impact on the human body's metabolic processes, as humans rely on starches and carbohydrates for energy. This is now unavailable in the markets, and this will negatively impact health in general, especially for vulnerable groups: the elderly, children, and pregnant women. There is also a category of people with injuries, whether to bone injuries or injuries to the body as a whole. Poor nutrition and poor eating impair wound healing and increase the risk of infection or complications. There are also problems with bone growth and the complete healing of wounds and bones.”
YARMOUK DISPLACED PERSONS CAMP, NORTH GAZA
28. Wide shot, another family standing and seated, with tents and clothes drying, with food being cooked in the background
Gaza faces renewed risk of severe hunger and malnutrition as the aid blockade enters the second month. Humanitarian food stocks are dwindling and prices of the few remaining stocks in shops have soared. Due to no food aid or cooking gas entering Gaza, 25 subsidized bakeries have closed. Lack of food would worsen the health of people in Gaza.
