“As you saw earlier today on social media, the Secretary-General welcomes US President Trump’s announcement of a cease-fire between Israel and Iran. The Secretary-General urges the two countries to respect it fully. The fighting must stop, he said as the people of the two countries have already suffered too much. The Secretary-General hopes that this ceasefire can be replicated in the other conflicts in the region.”

“Also yesterday afternoon, the Secretary-General also expressed his deep alarm at the further escalation of the conflict in the Middle East in relation to the attack by Iran on the state of Qatar. In a tweet, he strongly condemned the attack on Qatar, a country that has been active for peace in the region and further afield. The Secretary-General urges all Member States to uphold their obligations under international law and the UN Charter.”

“The Secretary-General welcomes US President Trump’s announcement of a cease-fire between Israel and Iran. The Secretary-General urges the two countries to respect it fully,” UN spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric told reporters.
“The fighting must stop, he said, as the people of the two countries have already suffered too much,” Dujarric added, noting that the Secretary-General hopes the cease-fire “can be replicated in the other conflicts in the region.”
Also today (24 Jun), Dujarric expressed the UN chief’s deep concern over the wider regional tensions.
“Also yesterday afternoon, the Secretary-General also expressed his deep alarm at the further escalation of the conflict in the Middle East in relation to the attack by Iran on the State of Qatar,” he said.
In a social media post, the Secretary-General “strongly condemned the attack on Qatar, a country that has been active for peace in the region and further afield.”
Dujarric stressed that the UN chief is urging all Member States to uphold their obligations under international law and the UN Charter.
