Storyline

More than 38,000 people have been affected by the devastating earthquakes that struck Nangarhar and Kunar provinces, eastern Afghanistan over the past week.

Zardad Khan and his children sustained injuries, while four of their family members perished in the quake.

SOUNDBITE (Pashto) Zardad Khan, Earthquake Victim, Chawkay District:
“My name is Zardad Khan. The recent earthquake has deeply affected my family—we tragically lost four loved ones. I’ve received support from the United Nations now. Our home, consisting of three rooms, was destroyed, and both my children and I sustained injuries.”

Abdul Jabar Hanafi reports that 28 people died in his village, mostly women and children.

Already, 1,475 people have been confirmed killed and 2,381 injured, with numbers still rising as assessments continue.
