To help families survive the cold, UNICEF, with support from the Government of Italy, is distributing essential winter supplies such as blankets and mattresses to vulnerable families in the Gaza Strip. Suzan and Fadwa testify to the enormous needs of their respective families. UNICEF

“Last winter, we had nothing while displaced inside the city. We had no pillows, no blankets, no plastic covers. I will take these blankets for my grandchildren. I’ll put one blanket underneath them, three or four children will sleep on it, and the other blanket will cover them. It’s better than having them shiver on bare mats. Our situation is dire. In displacement, nothing remains for us. We couldn’t take our clothes. All that matters is escaping alive.”

“Let's take a look inside a UNICEF winter clothing kit. First of all, we're giving children a warm winter jacket, which is desperately needed when the temperature drops here in Gaza. Also critical is shoes. We see so many children walking across the rubble at the moment in their bare feet. So a sturdy pair of winter boots. And of course, a pair of socks to go with them. Then we've got in here a hat and gloves, a scarf and a warm jumper. As well as three other sets of warm winter clothes for children.”
