24. SOUNDBITE (English) Major General Diodato Abagnara, UNIFIL Head of Mission and Force Commander:
“Today we stand together in grief. We gather to honor three brave Indonesian peacekeepers: Major Zulmi Aditya, First Sergeant Nur Ichwan, Private First Class Farizal Rhomadhon. They lost their lives here in Lebanon, serving under the United Nations flag, serving for peace. As a Force Commander, this is the hardest moment. We have not only lost peacekeepers, we have lost brothers. On behalf of the entire UNIFIL community, I express my deepest condolences to their families, to their loved ones, and to the Indonesian Armed Forces. Our thoughts are with INDOBATT, and with every Indonesian peacekeeper who continues to serve with courage and dignity. Their sacrifice goes far beyond one nation. It brings us together, UNIFIL and the entire United Nations peacekeeping community, in shared respect and commitment. They come here far from home, with one purpose, to serve peace. They did it with courage. They did it with honor. They did it until the very end. Today, words feel small. There are moments when silence says more. But we must speak to remember. We must speak to honor. To their families, no words can take away your pain. But please, know this, they are not forgotten. They will remain part of this mission, part of all of us. Their sacrifice reminds us of the reality of peacekeeping. UNIFIL is a mission of hope, but also a mission of risk. And it is carried forward by people like them, brave, committed, and selfless. We owe them more than remembrance. We owe them continuity. We owe them the strength to carry forward their mission and the commitment to honor their sacrifice through our service. So let us carry their example forward. Let us strengthen our commitment to service, solidarity, and peace. In their memory, we stand united. In their memory, we continue our mission. Rest in peace, dear comrades. We will not forget you. But we will honor you every day through our service. With my heart, thank you Zulmi, thank you Nur and thank you Farizal. Thank you again, Shukran, Terima Kasih.”
25. SOUNDBITE (English) Brigadier General Firas Tarchichi: Representing the Lebanese Minister of National Defence and the Commander of Lebanese Armed Forces:
“Today, we gather to bid farewell to the three heroic and courageous peacekeepers, Captain Zulmi Aditya Isskandar, First Sergeant Mohammad Nur Ichwan, and Private First Class Farizal Rhomadhon, who embodied the highest standards of discipline and commitment to duty, serving their country with honor until their final moments.
Throughout their service in Lebanon, they played a vital role alongside their comrades in the Indonesian battalion under the UNIFIL banner. They contributed meaningfully to preserving peace in southern Lebanon and they stood as true advocates of the enduring friendship and cooperation between Indonesia and Lebanon. Esteemed attendees, our UNIFIL personnel are held in the highest regard by the Army Command stemming from our shared mission under Resolution 1701 and the mutual respect and the trust forged over years of growth, cooperation between our units and UNIFIL. On UNIFIL contingent, their tireless efforts to preserve peace are equally recognized and appreciated by all Lebanese, particularly the residents of the south who have built bonds of goodwill and the trust with UNIFIL units, relationships that have steady deep net and strength over time. For all these reasons, any attack against UNIFIL regardless of its scale is a direct attack on Lebanon's security. It is unequivocally rejected by the Lebanese people enduring the consequences of the ongoing Israeli aggression against the country. In conclusion, on behalf of His Excellency, the Minister of National Defense Major General Michel Mnassa and the Army Commander in Chief General Rodolf Haykal, I extend my deepest sympathy and condolences to the families of Captain Zulmi Aditya Skandar, First Sergeant Mohammad Nur Ichwan, and Private First Class Farizal Rhomadhon, as well as to their friends and comrades in the Indonesian battalion and UNIFIL. I also reaffirm our steadfast commitment to continue working with full dedication as we have consistently done to uphold and further strengthen the enduring bonds of cooperation and friendship that unite us in faithful service of our shared mission and common goals. Long live Lebanon, long live the Army, long live the UNIFIL.”
