“It should be noted that the treatment centre we are going to set up in the existing paediatrics building may not meet the patient bed needs. Therefore, we are currently levelling another space where we will set up semi-temporary facilities, initially for suspected cases. If we have enough space, we can expand further for confirmed cases.”

“On security, we also have a communications team coming shortly to speak with the community and reassure them about what we are doing, which is also for the good of the population, so that they can truly support what we are doing.”

A World Health Organization (WHO) logistics team is working to complete the public health facility in Bunia, Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), that will care for patients with suspected or confirmed Ebola virus disease. WHO is using this response to train young volunteers in setting up the tents that will house the patients. This approach will ensure that after the response, the young volunteers in Bunia retain their knowledge and skills.
WHO is on the ground supporting by delivering supplies, deploying experts to the field, scaling up laboratory and testing capacities, setting up Ebola treatment centres, and accelerating research and development of candidate vaccines and treatments for Bundibugyo virus disease.
