1. Various shots, including drone shots, RRM teams providing items and camps highlighting poor living conditions, overcrowding, and a lack of necessities
2. Various shots, newly displaced families, mostly women and children, receiving aid
3. SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Aziza, 46 years old, Displaced Woman:
"Suddenly, while we were fleeing on the road, we heard intense shelling. I saw cars burning and flames, and I could see the bleeding wounded right in front of me. I was injured and burned as well. I held onto my four daughters in fear. A motorcycle picked us up, and I couldn't believe I had survived and reached Ras Al-Ara; only there did I feel safe. I hope the war ends and I never see those scenes again. We are tired of displacement and fleeing, and we have lost everything we own.”
4. Wide shot, newly displaced families
5. SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Um Abeer, 47 years old, Displaced Woman:
“The war started suddenly, so everyone fled. During our displacement, we walked for three consecutive days to escape. The children and we suffered from severe hunger and thirst, with nothing but some biscuits to quiet the children's hunger as we kept walking. We finally reached a safe place, and here in the camp, we cook whatever is available; some of us eat enough, and some don't. We do not even have clean water or bathrooms here. I am a mother of seven children, and thank God, at least we survived death.”

Storyline

The humanitarian situation in the coastal areas of Yemen is rapidly deteriorating following a recent escalation in hostilities, displacing around 140,000 people. Thousands of vulnerable families have been forced to flee their homes in Mokha in a desperate search for safety in areas like Ras Al-Ara. The overwhelming majority of those newly displaced are women and children who have arrived at settlement sites with nothing but their clothes. They are now facing catastrophic conditions, critically lacking in adequate shelter, clean water, and fundamental healthcare services.

For women and girls, this sudden and chaotic displacement constitutes a severe crisis upon an existing, chronic crisis. Pregnant women, new mothers, and adolescent girls find themselves entirely cut off from essential and life-saving reproductive health services. Currently, over 2,700 displaced pregnant women are completely cut off from lifesaving care. The overcrowded, exposed, and rudimentary conditions of the displacement camps severely compromise their privacy, dignity, and physical safety, exponentially heightening the risks of gender-based violence (GBV) and severe, sometimes fatal, maternal health complications.

In an immediate response to this unfolding emergency, UNFPA, as lead ofthe inter-agency Rapid Response Mechanism (RRM) in coordination with UNICEF, WFP and IOM, has been on the ground delivering critical, life-saving relief. The RRM teams have reached more than 90,000 displaced people with emergency relief, distributing food, hygiene supplies and women’s dignity kits, which include sanitary items for women and girls to manage menstrual hygiene.

As the protracted conflict in Yemen persists and expands, the pressure on the country's already severely debilitated health systems continues to mount. UNFPA is urgently appealing for US 22.7 million dollars to keep reproductive health clinics operational, ensure the uninterrupted provision of emergency obstetric care, and maintain safe spaces for survivors of violence. Without immediate and robust intervention, the lives of thousands of vulnerable women and girls in Yemen remain in imminent peril.
