“We need more help. Because the people are in need, they’re desperate they don’t know where to look at. I decided to do it because I had to do it. And UNICEF’s support to spread the word to help us face that terrible moment. We found kids on the streets. I kept two of them because they didn’t know where to go. At the Place Boyer we have kids from zero to five years old that are desperate. They don’t have any parents, they don’t have anybody. We take care of them as we can.”

“We’ve seen that the people living in the square have been organized into six groups. There are children in all situations, without their parents, street children, and children living with their parents in the square.”

“I didn’t give my daughter anything to eat since this morning. I wanted to go to the country but because had 250 gourd and I lost it, so I have no way to go. That’s why I’m sitting here.”

Ten days after the earthquake that devastated Haiti, UNICEF continued to deliver life saving supplies to children and families in need.
Local groups such as Bureau d’Implication Citoyenne (BIC) that emerged in the aftermath of Haiti’s earthquake are working with UNICEF to help the children in Petionville who have lost their families. Many of these children have now reside in the district’s many parks including Place Boyer Park.

UNICEF is working with the Government to protect children and prevent them from being illegally removed.

Even children who are with their families are suffering.

There are nearly three hundred people are living in the park with inadequate sanitary facilities. With more people arriving daily, the needs are expected to grown.
