A Fact-Finding Mission from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) yesterday (26 May 2011) visited two nuclear power plants in Japans north eastern coast as part of the agency’s effort to identify lessons from the Japanese nuclear accident following the 11 March earthquake and Tsunami.
The team's experts from 12 nations examined the Tokai Daini Nuclear Power Plant and then visited the Fukushima Daini Nuclear Power Plant to review the damage at both sites and held technical talks with plant operators.
The Agency had assembled a team of nuclear experts from 12 countries to prepare a report for the IAEA Ministerial Conference on Nuclear Safety, which is taking place at the IAEA headquarters in Vienna on 20-24 June.
The team was led by Mike Weightman, HM Chief Inspector of Nuclear Installations
of the United Kingdom.
