Storyline

The Security Council met on the Secretary-General’s report on Sudan at United Nations (UN) headquarters in New York today (27 July).

Addressing members of the Council, head of Peacekeeping Operations Alain Le Roy said Abyei “remains unresolved and had become a major source of tension between the government of Sudan and the SPLM.”

He added that “the Sudanese armed forces continue to retain a considerable presence north of Ba el'Arab River but have indicated their intensions to withdraw upon the deployment of UNISFA.”
