“We would like to express our deepest condolences to the American people for this grave loss. It was a loss for Libya as it was a loss for the United States of America. We say to the United States and its people that this catastrophe will only increase our solidarity to entrench the hopes and the objectives in which Ambassador Chris Stevenson believed. We shall defeat the plots of the backward terrorists that do not represent Libya, who do not represent Islam.”

“South Sudan is currently carrying the burden of accommodating an increasing number of refugees from the two areas. We therefore call upon the international community to assist in meeting the humanitarian needs of these refugees within South Sudan as well as through Sudan territory for those internally displaced by the
conflict.”

“I am pleased to inform this Assembly that today President Salva Kiir Mayardit and President Omer Hassan Ahmed al Bashir signed an agreement that will allow the two countries to pursue their national development under a secure and lasting peace. We are hopeful that the new agreement with the Sudan will lead to the resolution of our differences on security, borders, and the use of petroleum infrastructure.”

“I wish to inform the General Assembly that we failed to reach agreement on Abyei. President Bashir has rejected the proposal of the AUHIP, as stipulated under Resolution 2046 of the UN security Resolution. It is now incumbent upon the AU Peace and Security Council together with UN Security Council to take necessary action for the way forward.”

Mohamed Yousef El-Magariaf, Libya’s President expressed his condolences today (27 September) to the American people for the loss of their Ambassador to Libya, Chris Stevens.
Addressing the plenary meeting of the 67th General Assembly of the United Nations (UN) in New York
El-Magariaf said that Libya “shall defeat the plots of the backward terrorists that do not represent Libya, who do not represent Islam”.
Also addressing the plenary later in the day Riek Machar, South Sudan’s Vice-President reminded delegates that South Sudan was currently “carrying the burden” of hosting an increasing number of refugees from Southern Kordofan and Blue Nile States. Machar called upon the international community to assist in meeting the humanitarian needs of those refugees as well as for those internally displaced by the conflict in that region.
Machar also announced that today the country’s President Salva Kiir Mayardit and Sudan’s President Omer Hassan Ahmed al Bashir had signed an agreement allowing allow the two countries to pursue their national development under a secure and lasting peace.
Machar said, “we are hopeful that the new agreement with the Sudan will lead to the resolution of our differences on security, borders, and the use of petroleum infrastructure”.
At the same time he regretted having to announce the failure to reach agreement on Abyei. Machar said that “President Bashir has rejected the proposal of the AUHIP, as stipulated under Resolution 2046 of the UN security Resolution”.
He pointed out that now it fell upon the AU Peace and Security Council together with UN Security Council “to take necessary action for the way forward”.
Earlier in the day Bosnia and Herzegovina’s President while talking about the Syrian conflict at the plenary said that “unless we act now and act decisively to help the people of Syria and put an end to their bloodshed, this tragedy will haunt our history forever, just like Srebrenica”.
