This is Akcakale Refugee Camp in Turkey, one of 13 run by the Turkish government.
Designed and built from the ground in a matter of weeks. It filled up in days.
Across the region, Jordan, Lebanon, Iraq and Turkey have kept their borders open for Syrians fleeing violence.
Today a partnership of 52 organizations, across four refugee hosting countries warned that that number would increase.

The agencies also pointed to the vulnerability of this refugee population.

In some places, the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) and its partners in Jordan have worked around the clock to deal with the influx.
Bus loads of refugees like these arrive day and night in Za’atri Camp in Jordan. Upon arrival they get a welcome meal from the World Food Programme (WFP).
The goal is to make sure every refugee has a shelter, whether a tent or a room, and has access to water, food, care. Schools for children are also a goal.
And as winter approaches, blankets, heaters, warmer tents and clothes will be needed.

The revised appeal for just under half a million dollars will bring much needed support to the refugees and the hosting countries and communities.
The agencies described the situation as drastic, saying that time was running out to ensure the ongoing protection of this population in need.
