“The priority for the UN Refugee Agency and the European Union is to increase health access for the majority of the population but also to improve the quality of care so it will have an impact on the reduction of the mortality and the morbidity rate for patients.”

In the south of Chad, thousands of refugees have settled in the province of Nya Pende.
Many fled war in the neighboring country of the Central African Republic
They depend on humanitarian aide for security, shelter AND healthcare.
This subsidized health clinic in the village of Beureh was built between two refugee camps with funding from the European Union.
Refugees from Camp Amboko and Camp Gondje, as well as local Chadian who live in the area, all have access to its medical services.

Djormare Kende’s baby suffered a fever in the night. Malaria is the number one health threat in the refugee camps.

Four days of antibiotics are prescribed for her son. Under the EU funded integration health program, refugees help pay for the medicine to encourage self-sufficiency.
Malnutrition, respiratory and gastro infections plague the innocent. The health program sends field doctors into communities to spot cases. Sick children are referred to this clinic.
Babies are checked, diagnosed and given treatment.
Pregnant woman are monitored to avoid difficult childbirths. One woman died at the clinic for lack of blood. Now, a blood donor’s bank exists.

Health prevention is a priority under the EU funded health program.
Even the animals in the region are vaccinated to prevent disease that could spread.
