Storyline

Domiz refugee camp in northern Iraq is home to tens of thousands of Syrian refugees, living in makeshift shelters of all kinds.

UNICEF Ambassador and basketball star Pau Gasol, visited to the camp to see how UNICEF is helping families to cope with their new living arrangements.

Gasol, who is Spanish, has twice won the National Basketball Association championship with his team, the Los Angeles Lakers.

He’s worked with UNICEF since 2003.

In the camp he met families who described being forced to leave their homes, many with nothing more than the clothes on their backs.

And he saw how UNICEF is helping to ensure that children who have lost everything are still getting an education.

These children are just a few of the four million in Syria and in neighbouring countries who are in desperate need of even the basics of life.

Gasol has added his voice to those around the world calling for a peaceful end to the conflict and a greater mobilization of resources to help those in desperate need.
