Following last month's missile launches by the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK), South Korean Ambassador Oh Joon today (2 May) said that the Security Council is “ready to deal with the DPRK if there are any further new provocations.”
Oh Joon, who is the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Korea and holds the Presidency of the Security Council for the month of May, recalled that “Member States all condemned those launches” and added that “Council Members are concerned about the situation.”
Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon last week expressed concern about the successive reports of new launches of ballistic missiles by the Democratic DPRK, which reportedly test fired two medium-range ballistic missiles from a site north of the capital, Pyongyang, into the sea off its eastern coast. Several launches of short-range ballistics have been conducted in recent weeks, according to media reports.
