UNMISS Establishes New Base in Town of Yei
The United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) recently opened a new peacekeeping base in the South Sudanese town of Yei, at the request of the town's inhabitants, to guard against ongoing violence. One hundred and fifty Rwandan and Nepalese peacekeepers will be deployed initially, with the number gradually increasing to 300. They will conduct regular patrols, particularly to rural areas, to improve security so that humanitarian agencies can reach people in need and to encourage people who fled the violence to return to their homes and farms.
