More than ten million Filipinos work abroad, sending home more than 20 billion US dollars a year. But as over three quarters of Filipinos do not have bank accounts, receiving these remittances from overseas workers has been difficult for their families. The cell phone provider Globe Telecom with support from the International Fund for Agricultural Development, IFAD, came up with an innovative system. GCash allows Filipinos instant access to the money sent to them from abroad.
