Security Council Fails to Adopt Resolution on Gaza

Security Council votes on a draft resolution on the situation in the Middle East put forth by the United States.

The resolution made imperative an immediate and sustained ceasefire with an "urgent need to expand the flow of humanitarian assistance" to all civilians and lifting "all barriers" to delivering aid at scale to Gazans. The resolution received 11 votes in favour, three against and one abstention. The resolution was not adopted due to the veto by two of the Permanent Members of the Security Council (Russian Federation and People's Republic of China).
