UNMIL Peacekeepers Prepare for Troop Withdrawal

The United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL) is withdrawing its military presence from the country on 8 February, as part of the termination of its mandate scheduled for 30 March, 2018. UNMIL was established in September 2003 to monitor a ceasefire agreement in Liberia, following the conclusion of the Second Liberian Civil War.
George Weah, President of the Republic of Liberia, receives a traditional Pakistani hat at UNMIL headquarters in Monrovia during a ceremony to honour and bid farewell to police and military personnel who served with the Mission.
