“We are rejecting the intention, failed intention of the US to bring the Venezuelan situation as an issue in the Security Council. We are out of the Security Council agenda because we never will be a threat against the peace and security in international or in the regional level.”

“Venezuela doesn’t want to be told what to do. All we are asking, we are not for the opposition, we are not for President Maduro, we are for the Venezuelan people. We are saying, show respect for the Venezuelan people. They need to have free and fair elections. They need to make sure there is not, they need to release all political prisoners, the humanitarian situation needs to be addressed. They are without medicine, they are starting to go without food, there are serious issues that we see in terms of the humanitarian issue. They need to respect the constitution and allow the National Assembly to continue.”

“We stressed to the members of the Council that this is not an issue that should be dealt by the Security Council. We are not facing a threat to international peace and security in Venezuela, not even in a regional level. There are some conflicts in Venezuela that must be solved in respect with the sovereignty of this member state, and according to what the regional bodies such as UNASUR, CELAC, and even the good offices of the Pope are doing.”

“The only way to come out of this is through an agreement between the Venezuelan political actors. They themselves are the ones who have to take the situation in their hands and carry it through negotiations to a satisfactory outcome.”

Venezuela’s Ambassador, Rafael Darío Ramírez Carreño, rejected the “failed intention of the US to bring the Venezuelan situation as an issue in the Security Council” stressing that it “never will be a threat against the peace and security in international or in the regional level.”
Ramírez Carreño was addressing reporters after a closed door meeting of the Council called upon by the United States (US).
Also talking to reporters, US Ambassador Nikki Haley said “Venezuela doesn’t want to be told what to do.”
Haley said Venezuela needs “to have free and fair elections” and “release all political prisoners.”
She said “they are without medicine, they are starting to go without food, there are serious issues that we see in terms of the humanitarian issue. They need to respect the constitution and allow the National Assembly to continue.”
Also speaking to reporters, Bolivia’s Ambassador Sacha Sergio Llorenty Soliz said “this is not an issue that should be dealt by the Security Council.
