They are without medicine, they are starting to go without food, there are serious issues that we see in terms of the humanitarian issue. They need to respect the constitution and allow the National Assembly to continue.”

There are some conflicts in Venezuela that must be solved in respect with the sovereignty of this member state, and according to what the regional bodies such as UNASUR, CELAC, and even the good offices of the Pope are doing.”

Venezuela’s Ambassador, Rafael Darío Ramírez Carreño, rejected the “failed intention of the US to bring the Venezuelan situation as an issue in the Security Council” stressing that it “never will be a threat against the peace and security in international or in the regional level.”

Ramírez Carreño was addressing reporters after a closed door meeting of the Council called upon by the United States (US).

Also talking to reporters, US Ambassador Nikki Haley said “Venezuela doesn’t want to be told what to do.”

Haley said Venezuela needs “to have free and fair elections” and “release all political prisoners.”

She said “they are without medicine, they are starting to go without food, there are serious issues that we see in terms of the humanitarian issue. They need to respect the constitution and allow the National Assembly to continue.”

Also speaking to reporters, Bolivia’s Ambassador Sacha Sergio Llorenty Soliz said “this is not an issue that should be dealt by the Security Council.
