“We have heeded the clarion call made by the Director-General for member States to ratify at least one of the ILO core Conventions. In this regard I wish to proudly announce that Lesotho has ratified Protocol 029 to the Forced Labour Convention of 1930. I have been advised that the process of depositing the instruments of ratification with the ILO is at an advanced stage.”

"On the Centenary of the International Labour Organization, we reaffirm the validity and relevance of its mandate. We are aware that as the historical leader of the Cuban revolution Fidel Castro said, and I quote: 'Creative work, work that is not the product of exploitation, work for the benefit of the worker and for the benefit of the people is the most honorable function that man can have'. Thank you very much.”

"I deeply believe that the ILO should be the leader in the discussion about what the challenges will be in terms of coverage and benefits for workers in the fourth industrial revolution, but it should also do so in harmony with other entities so that we do not have different avenues but that we unify common purposes and perhaps the most important point is to do so under the umbrella of the Sustainable Development Goals.”

King Letsie III of Lesotho, Salvador Antonio Valdés Mesa, First Vice-President of Cuba and Iván Duque Márquez, the President of Colombia addressed the 108th International Labour Conference today (19 Jun) in Geneva, Switzerland.
King Letsie III of Lesotho announced his country’s ratification of a core Convention of the ILO, the Protocol of 2014 to the Forced Labour Convention, 1930.
Also speaking at the Conference, Salvador Antonio Valdés Mesa, First Vice-President of Cuba, said, "On the Centenary of the International Labour Organization, we reaffirm the validity and relevance of its mandate. More than 40 heads of government and state have addressed the two-week long Conference, which ends Friday.
During the Conference over 6,000 delegates – representing governments, workers and employers – are discussing transformative changes in the world of work, and are considering the adoption of a landmark ILO Centenary Declaration on the future of work. They are also discussing violence and harassment at the workplace with a view to adopting a new international instrument.
