3. SOUNDBITE (English) Kim In Ryong, Deputy Permanent Representative of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) to the United Nations:
“The United States is disturbing the global peace and stability and insisting on the gangster-like logic that its invasion of a sovereign state is ‘decisive, just and proportionate’ and contributes to ‘defending’ the international order in its bid to apply it to the Korean peninsula as well.”

5. SOUNDBITE (English) Kim In Ryong, Deputy Permanent Representative of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) to the United Nations:
“The United States introduces into South Korea, the Korean peninsula, the world's biggest hotspot, huge nuclear strategic assets, seriously threatening peace and security of the peninsula and pushing the situation there to the brink of war. This has created a dangerous situation in which a thermo-nuclear war may break out at any moment on the peninsula and posed serious threat to the world peace and security, to say nothing of those in Northeast Asia.”

7. SOUNDBITE (English) Kim In Ryong, Deputy Permanent Representative of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) to the United Nations:
“It is crystal clear to everybody that the United States, hell-bent on the dangerous sabre-rattling in South Korea little short of a nuclear arsenal, is the arch criminal harassing peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula and the rest of Northeast Asia.”

9. SOUNDBITE (English) Kim In Ryong, Deputy Permanent Representative of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) to the United Nations:
“If the United States dares to opt for the military action, crying out for ‘pre-emptive attack’ and ‘removal of the headquarters’, the DPRK is ready to react to any mode of war desired by the Americans. The prevailing grave situation proves once again the DPRK was entirely just when it increased in every way its military capabilities for self-defence and pre-emptive attack with a nuclear force as a pivot.”

11. SOUNDBITE (English) Kim In Ryong, Deputy Permanent Representative of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) to the United Nations:
“The Trump administration is trying to do something over DPRK by deploying one strategic striking means after another in south Korea, trumpeting about ‘peace by strength’, but the DPRK remains unfazed, undaunted. We never beg for peace and we will take the toughest counteraction against the provocateurs in order to defend ourselves by powerful force of arms and keep to the road chosen by ourselves.”

Storyline

North Korean ambassador Kim In Ryong said if the United States (US) “dares to opt” for military action in his country, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) was “ready to react to any mode of war desired by the Americans.”

Speaking to reporters in New York today (17 Apr), Kim said the US was “disturbing the global peace and stability and insisting on the gangster-like logic” by launching attacks on sovereign nations siting the recent attack on Syrian military airport by cruise-missiles. He said the joint military drills currently being carried out by the US and South Korea introduced various nuclear strategic assets, including a nuclear carrier task group, nuclear strategic bombers and stealth fighters, and focused on ‘precision strike’ on major strategic points in the DPRK including the supreme headquarter and nuclear rocket bases. Kim stressed that the introduction of the nuclear assets pushed the situation on the Korean Peninsula to “the brink of war” adding that a “thermo-nuclear war may break out at any moment on the peninsula.”

The North Korean ambassador said the situation proved that the DPRK was “entirely just when it increased in every way its military capabilities for self-defence and pre-emptive attack with a nuclear force as a pivot.” He said the US used double-standards in the Security Council against countries with different ideologies and social systems who aspire for independence against imperialism by disregarding the role of international law in “pursuance of world hegemony.”

He added that the road chosen by the DPRK for strengthening self-defensive deterrence is the road for its existence and for safeguarding its future and reflected the determination of the army and people of the DPRK to counter nuclear attacks and Inter-Continental Ballistic Missiles (ICBM) in kind. He said the Trump administration was “trying to do something over DPRK by deploying one strategic striking means after another in South Korea, trumpeting about ‘peace by strength’, but the DPRK remains unfazed, undaunted.” He added, “We never beg for peace and we will take the toughest counteraction against the provocateurs in order to defend ourselves by powerful force of arms and keep to the road chosen by ourselves.”
